Match Report by Deck Shoe Wolf

Wolves first top flight home game in nearly 20 years ended in disaster as a rampant Charlton ran wild with a devastating 1st half display.

Both teams entered this game looking for their 1st points of the season after disappointing defeats on the opening weekend of the season.

Only Charlton's poor ticket sales prevented the game being a sell out as thousands of wolves fans poured into Molineux looking for their taste of premiership football. Those early enough would have seen Wolves Legend Steve Bull open the stand now bearing his name.

Wolves making one change from last week - Oakes in for Murray - fell behind in about as much time as it takes Dean Sturridge to warm up for a pre season friendly. Barely 5 minutes had passed when Jason Euell latched on to Cameron's suicidal back header. Surprise 1st choice keeper Oakes had little chance as the Addicks striker blaster home. Wolves 0 Charlton 1

Wolves looked rattled as the new signings again failed to settle against a strong and fluent Charlton side. Just before the half hour mark Craddock needlessly fouled Bartlett on the edge of the area. Jensen ruthlessly dispatched the free kick into the top corner to double the visitors lead.Wolves 0 Charlton 2

Wolves were given little time on the ball and only had a couple of corners to show for some limited attacking play.

Charlton made it 3 goals in 25 minutes when Bartlett combined well with Parker and Holland to score his first of the season. Wolves 0 Charlton 3

Shell-shocked Wolves could not cope with Charlton's slick play and it was no surprise to anyone when Bartlett slotted home his second goal on the half hour mark.Wolves 0 Charlton 4. By the time the ref blew for half time most home fans had disappeared down below for a much needed beer.

Half Time Wolves 0 Charlton 4

DJ replaced Silas and Cameron for Cooper and Rae as Wolves looked to add some steel to the midfield. Charlton played much of the 2nd half in cruise control as Wolves attack struggled to create a chance. Rae looked to be our best player but the fiery Scot had little help around him when looking to create an opening.

On 65 minutes the impressive Parker was harshly sent off for what looked like a 50/50 challenge on Cooper. The Wolves winger limped out of the action leaving both teams with 10 men as Wolves had used all their subs, as Sturridge had replaced Iversson minutes before.

Di Canio and Cole both came on late to stretch their legs but only showed Charlton fans a glimpse of their potential.

Wolves have again been exposed to the harsh reality of premiership football. Three new signings have been promised for next week. They need to be proven quality as Silas looks well off the pace and DJ seems reluctant to play his other foreign signings. Still Wolves have a chance to put things right against the current champions, who are top of the league, in their own back yard......oh dear.......
