Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
We next play Arsenal on Boxing Day, but if it was a boxing match it would be called off now, such is the mismatch between the two sides.
Another humiliating defeat, this time against a very young reserve Arsenal team. Although Arsenal did field Wiltord, Kanu and a returning-from-injury Vierra, not many people would have heard of any of their other players. But they still beat us convincingly in a very one-sided game. There was very little to take from this game, except the solace that it wasn't a league match.
The Wolves squad was hit by injury, but you're in a sorry state at a club if one injury to an aging right back destroys your team. Oh, I forgot we are in a sorry state. For some obscure reason Irwin's injury meant that he was replaced by the midfielder Joey Gudjonsson.
Things looked bad more or less from the kick-off, with there two young players down their left-wing looking impressive. But it was the Nigerian international Kanu who showed the first bit of skill working some of his unpredictable magic, beating Gudjonsson, Ince and Craddock before chipping his shot against the post.
Kanu then got a one-on-one with our goalie Andy Marshall by shrugging off Gudjonsson (showing why Joey's a midfielder, not a defender). Fortunately he let us off the hook again and Kanu shot wide.
Wolves only held out against the tide for 24 minutes. Aliadière anticipated a Naylor back pass, intercepting it and then sliding the ball past the unfortunate Marshall who managed to get a hand to it. Arsenal 1 Wolves 0
There was a brief Wolves' fightback when Rae's corner was met by Ince whose hooked volley was tipped behind by the Arsenal goalkeeper, Stack. Shortly afterwards Blake was sent through by Miller, but he miscued his shot yards wide.

After the break Arsenal again became dominant and it was Kanu again who caused the problems. He ghosted past left Craddock in his wake on the left wing , but Marshall blocked his shot from a tight angle. Marshall followed that up by saving from Wiltord, with a little help from Gudjonsson.
Then came the almost obligatory un-awarded penalty for Wolves, when Tavlaridis pushed Blake over. There was a bit of argy bargy afterwards, but that was thre only real action at the Arsenal end for some time.
Arsenal's second didn't come until the 67 minute. Wiltord sent in a low cross and Kanu touched the ball past Marshall before slotting the ball home.Arsenal 2 Wolves 0
Next up was Aliadière who took a Kanu pass jinked past both Craddock and Butler and thundered a shot into the net from the edge of the area. Arsenal 3 Wolves 0 . The floodgates were now well and truly open and Wiltord made it 4 when he beat the offside trap, picking up Vieira's pass and slotting the ball home. Arsenal 4 Wolves 0
Then - wonder of wonders - Wolves pulled one back when Rae skipped past Arsenal Viera and drove the ball home from a tight angle. Arsenal 4 Wolves 1
Arsenal - of course - wanted the last word and they got it when Francesc Fabregas Soler became Arsenal's youngest ever scorer (aged 16) getting his goal from Wiltord's pass. Arsenal 5 Wolves 1
We could probably do worse that take on loan the young gunners who played in this game. At least we might see a bit of commitment from a Wolves player other than Rae.
And before you ask, I blame the poor tactics and formation for the lack of commitment, not the players themselves. Anyway, if they need motivating whose job is it to do it? Come on DJ, just admit you are wrong, get a proper coach in who knows about tactics and formations and knows how to speak to people. Then we can all stop blaming Naylor for mistakes that you've led him into.
