Redhot Wolves gained 3 vital points with a convincing display against Fulham
at a freezing cold Molinuex on Saturday.
DJ had an almost full strength squad to choose from as the Premiership bottom
side looked to bounce back from the disappointing drubbing at Leeds a week
and a half ago.
Camara returned on the right wing with Kenny Miller and Carl Colt the
preferred pairing up front. Wolves also welcomed back inspirational captain
Ince who has been so badly missed whilst serving his 2-match ban.
The premiership surprise package Fulham opted to attack the South bank end
first. The West London outfit appeared to have turned up in their pyjamas
(black and white shirts, red shorts and red socks) and certainly seemed to
be half asleep as lively Wolves tore into them early on.
Rae was first to test Van Der Sar with a curling shot that the Dutchman did
well to palm away. Recent signing Colt was proving an aerial threat and was
unlucky to be penalised for a foul when he looked to have won a corner.
Paul Ince return added some much needed bite to the midfield and he
celebrated his return from his ban by being booked on 18 minutes for a
crunching tackle on Malbranque.
Undeterred by his ticking off from ref Webb, the Wolves midfielder marvel
opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a sweet strike. Clyde, deputising for
Irwin floated the ball towards Rae who had burst in to the box. The
Scotsman's cushioned header found Ince whose inch-perfect drive beat Van Der
Sar to give the home side a deserved lead. Wolves 1 Fulham 0
Wolves continued to pressure and won a corner when Camara's shot was
desperately blocked by Bocanegra. The corner came to nothing when Camara
controlled the ball with his hand. Fulham looked weak in attack and Batley
troubled Jones in the Wolves goal.
Wolves continued to attack with some fluent football. Miller should have
doubled the lead on 32 minutes. He broke clear but his fierce shot was
superbly saved by Van Der Sar, easily Fulham's best player. The resulting
corner was desperately scrambled away by a visiting defence.
McBribe and Pearce both saw efforts saved by Jones but it was the home side
who went into half time wondering ho the score was still only 1-0.

Wolves came out looking hungry for more goals but wasted a couple of free
kicks and corners.
The dominant home side finally broke the Fulham resistance again on 60
minutes. Good pressure from Camara saw the ball break forward. Pearce
misjudged it and allowed Cort to sneak in behind him. The Wolves hit man
clipped the ball past the keeper to double the lead and open his Wolves
account. Wolves 2 Fulham 0
Fulham still offered very little going forward and were always second best
against a rampant Wolves side. A good attack from the left hand side should
have seen Wolves make it 3. Ince collected a pass inside the box and rolled
the ball into Clyde who flashed his shot just wide.
Man of the match Ince then went agonizingly close to the inside of the bar.
The ex England man headed the rebound goalwards only for Van Der Sar to save
it on the line. Ganea replaced Miller and soon flashed a header just wide.
Wolves never make it easy for themselves and ensured a nervy end to
the match when Malbranque scored with just 7 minutes left. Jones failed
to hold Boa Morte's shot leaving Malbranque an easy tap in. Wolves 2 Fulham 1
Despite a late onslaught and 3 minutes of added time Wolves hung on to climb
off the bottom of the table. Both players and fans alike sense survival is
definitely (and defiantly) achievable. With a decent fixture list and a growing confidence, even I'm starting to believe it myself...
