Well, well, well. They don't come much better than this. Wolves - a match for Derby the whole match - suddenly stepped up a gear in the final 15 minutes and demolished a team who are surely one of the promotion favourites. Away from home, as well. What a way to play your first game at Pride Park. I know who I was proud of after the match....
The first fifteen minutes were pretty even, although Derby probably edged it. Blake had a few shots off target, and Butler headed over the bar, but the only real moment of note was when Derby's Bolder drilled a shot that looked a certain goal until Oakes (our version) made a brilliant parried save. (The fact that their goalie was called Oakes as well was a little strange and I wonder when was the last time that Wolves played a team whose goalkeeper had the same name as ours).
Alex Rae opened the scoring on twenty minutes. A Newton cross missed Ingimarsson and fell to Rae who shot from 20 yards to find the bottom left of the net. No more than last year's man of the season deserved after a pretty lacklustre start to this season. 1-0 Wolves.
On the half hour mark Ince was injured and had to be replaced by Cooper. Strupar then fired a great shot just wide. It may have even clipped the bar. At the other end Irwin almost did a "goalden balls" but his excellent free-kick was tipped round the post by Oakes (Derby version).
Then, in first half stoppage time Christie pulled the home side level. Christie was left unmarked to tap home a cross from 6 yards. HT 1-1.
The second half was end-to-end stuff for about half an hour. Sturridge ahd a few shots and Blake had a header saved. At the other end Derby carved out quite a few chances with Bolder fluffing their best chance wide.
Then Miller replaced Sturridge up front and the game seemed to change. Within a couple of minutes, Rae crossed from the right side and Cooper shot from 20 yards and the ball flew into the top right hand corner. 2-1 to Wolves.
Wolves now took control of the game with Blake and Miller teaming up like I haven't seen since the game at Gillingham last year.
With a couple of minutes to go Rae got his second goal and Wolves' third. Cooper took a free kick to Miller who set up Rae for a cracking shot from fully 30 yards which flew into the top-left of their goal. 3-1 Wolves.
Deep in injury time Miller put the final bit of icing on the cake. Latching onto a Blake cross he drilled a low shot from close range into the back of the net. 4-1 to Wolves. Cue the song "One Kenny Miller, there's only one Kenny Miller.."
This was Wolves first real test and they passed it with flying colours. Top of the division at this stage of the season means absolutely nothing. Wins: 3 Draws: 1 Loses:0 - now thats more important. Bring on Wednesday on Tuesday....
