Colin Cameron helped ease the mounting pressure on Dave Jones at the Britannia Stadium. In a tense Staffordshire derby, the Scottish midfielder made the decisive break through late in the second half. This well-deserved victory will ease some of the flack thrown at the Wolves manager in recent weeks, but will Wolves be able to build on it?
There was a glut of clear chances in the first half but Wolves appeared to be largely in control. Having said that, there was a scary moment in the 16th minute, Murray stumbling when he advanced to take a ball. Thankfully, the dropped ball went out harmlessly for a Stoke corner.
Wolves had two spells of distinct pressure in the first half. In the 24th minute, a corner from Rae fell to Miller inside the box. The ball appeared to get under the Young Scot's feet and he couldn't quite get a meaningful shot on target. Cameron kept the pressure on in the 26th minute, but his shot from just outside the penalty area floated above the bar.
In the 31st minute, Newton gave a needless foul away on the Stoke left. From the set play, Stoke had the ball in the Wolves net but a Stoke attacker was judged to be off side.
The second spell of pressure came at the end of the first half, Miller striking two hopeful shots after promising build up play.

Wolves started the second half well, Newton winning a corner which Rae delivered from which Miller came close.
The midfield battle was increasingly going in favour of Wolves. Ince was livelier than in the first half and good hold up play was allowing Rae and Cameron to get forward well. In the 58th minute, Miller skipped past two Stoke defenders into the box and squared it for Rae who had his shot well-saved by Neil Cutler from 10 yards.
Newton was substituted for Ndah in the 60th minute and saw plenty of the ball after coming on.
Just when we were wondering if Wolves could turn their possession into penetration, with 11 minutes to go, Cameron drove into the box and with the assistance of the sliding defender Clarke, stroked the ball into the Stoke net. 1-0 Wolves
In response, Stoke offered little to trouble Wolves who were looking comfortable at the back, Lescott in particular having a sound game. A Stoke corner on 81 minutes was well taken by Murray and another on the 88th minute was easily dealt with at the front post.
The game was getting away from Stoke, and with practically the last kick of the game, a surging run from Blake coming in from the far left received no real tackle from a Stoke defender. The Wolves striker, obliged with a low shot from just inside the box that beat the keeper at his near post. 2-0 Wolves
Wolves should take lots of positive things from this performance. A clean sheet, lively midfield, and transformation of chances into goals are all the traits that have been missing in recent weeks. Wolves had also lost their last three away games. The three points takes Wolves into the top-half of the table with still a lot of work to do if the season is yet to be saved.
