Just when you thought it was safe to go into playoff water again, another dodgy performance keeps us rooted firmly on land once more. Though the playoffs can be turbulent and unpredictable as the sea itself, oh how the Wolves fans would dearly love just to dip a toe in at the moment.
The first home game since the famous FA cup victory against Newcastle promised so much, with an optimistic crowd, sarcastic anti Newcastle T-shirts being sold outside the ground and an opposition team in turmoil. The whole crowd was ready for an entertaining game. Even the Don's fans seemed upbeat (there must have been a good video on the minibus!). As the team entered the field everyone inside Molineux was "up for it" and ready to put the nightmare of 2002 behind us. All that is except the mascots whose performance at best can be described as mediocre (bring back Stuperstitious Wolf).
Wolves unchanged for a fourth time in a row started brightly against a Wimbledon team weakened by the absence of former Wolves striker David Connelly. After only a few minutes an intelligent through ball by Naylor set Kennedy free only for the winger to over hit a shot. Although in control Wolves still looked vulnerable on the break and Tapp was unlucky not to connect with a good cross from Agyemang. Still overall Wolves looked more threatening and Newton forced the first real save of the game from Don's keeper Davies when he linked up well with Ndah. For all Wolves possession the visitors still looked sharp on the break and had Lescott to thank for a good tackle to Deny Darlington after good work from Shipperly. On the half hour mark Wolves players and fans alike were left angry by the refs decision to halt a promising Wolves move when he blew up for Reo-Coker to receive treatment on the half way line. A persistent end to the half for the home side reaped its reward when Miller met Kennedy's cross with a fine looping header.

Wolves managed to crush the home crowds optimism in under a minute from the restart. Darlington (cousin of 100 metres champion Mark Lewis Francis) seemed just as quick out of the blocks as he smashed in a 40 second equalizer after some slack Wolves defending from a free kick into the box. Back to square one Wolves again took up the challenge to find the winning goal. A challenge not made easier by Cameron's 5 minute spell on the treatment table which meant Wolves that were playing with ten men. The side ways passing of recent games may have gone but we still seem to create little goal action for all our efforts. With little under ten minutes left Wolves fans , myself included, thought we had snatched a late winner. However the referee Tomlin ruled butler had fouled keeper Davies, whilst leaping to head into an empty net. After that the draw seemed inevitable and was confirmed when the ref blew his whistle after three minutes of added time.
In the post match interview after the Newcastle game DJ said he loved pressure. Well this drab draw must have cranked up his job satisfaction level a few more notches. We're still in a decent position but with performances like this, how much longer before the sharks that circle DJ start to bite?
