Report by Nero Wolf

How many times in the past has an ex-stiker come back to show form they couldn't demonstrate at Wolves, score loads of goals and generally torment Wolves? Well in this match the opposite happened. While everyone was expecting Kuqi to upset the applecart, Adam Proudlock, on loan with Sheff Wed earlier in the season, came back to show his ex- (temporary) employers why they should rue the day that Wolves had an striker injury crisis and had to re-call the young Wolf. This is the kind of injury crisis that I can live with, although I must admit I was disappointed when I learned that Ndah - who has hit a rich vein of form - was not going to play in this match. I needn't have worried.

Wolves were unchanged from the Leicester FA Cup match, except for the inclusion of Proudlock to replace the injured Ndah. Sheffield Wednesday fielded Wolves old boy Carl Robinson (on loan from Portsmouth) as well as Darryl Powell and on-loan stiker Michael Reddy. Robinson seemed particulary up for it against his old employers, with early fouls on Lescott, Kennedy and Ince.

Wednesday had the best of the early play, but were unable to carve out any openings. All they had to show was a 25 yard shot from Quinn which Murray turned round the post. Wednesday had a few corners, but as a side they never looked dangerous, even when they dominated possession as they did for the first twenty minutes or so.

But when you are on top, you have to make it count, and Wednesday didn't, so they were made to pay. Having just missed a glorious chance from a Newton low cross, Proudlock started the rout for Wolves on the 25 minute mark. A superb through ball from Miller cut open the Wednesday defence allowing Proudlock to burst through, sending the ball through Pressman's legs.Sheff Wed 0 Wolves 1

That was Proudlock's first goal of the season for Wolves, which is pretty surprising when you consider he was top goal scorer two season's ago. But the answer's quite simple as it was also his first start. It could be that, like Ndah before him, Proudlock will take the opportunity provided by the injury situation to force himself into the starting 11 as a regular. He certainly did his case a lot of good just before the break when he was in the right place at the right time. Ince and Kennedy exchanged passes and cut through the Wednesday defence, allowing Kennedy to cross to Proudlock who slotted home from close range. Sheff Wed 0 Wolves 2. What a day for the young striker.

Wednesday had come back from 2 nil down at half time against Reading earlier in the season to win 3-2 (cheers for the info Fat Stat), so although it looked unlikely, we couldn't rule out a Wednesday fight back. However the second half started with Wolves showing dominance and it was soon obvious that there was no way back for Wednesday.

Naylor went on a solo run and had a pop from 25 yards which went just wide and Kennedy hit the woodwork with a right footed shot. Then Miller made it three with a close range header which somehow squeezed itself under Pressman's body. Sheff Wed 0 Wolves 3.

Cue the Wednesday fans to get up leave. Not much sympathy from me I'm afraid, after the way they goaded us on the last day of last season. Looks like they are in for a torrid time between now and the end of the season. Shame, but what goes around comes around. I'm probably one of the few Wolves fans who wouldn't be too disappointed to see Sheffield Utd promoted, mostly because it will pee off Gray Smegson - but also because it will pour even more misery on the Wednesday fans - the same fans who sang "there's only one Gary Megson" last season.

Back to this game - Wolves fans were singing "there only one Jolean Lescott" and indeed the England under-21 centre back had a great game. He was probably man of the match in most fan's eyes as Kuqi hardly had a sniff of goal all game.

Kuqi did have a shot late-on which Murray saved and this was followed by Johnston hitting the post, but the last word went to Sturridge. Last season's top scorer had come on for the injured Newton after an hour (with Miller switching to the right wing). Sturridge had a quiet game, but he still managed to score with his left foot from 18 yards to put the icing on the cake for Wolves.Sheff Wed 0 Wolves 4

The last time Wolves won four nil away from home, it was disappointingly followed up by three 1-1 draws, the last of which was against next week's opponents, Brighton. This time we really need to keep the ball rolling, so let's hope we get a result like this on the south coast in seven days time.
