Report by JD Wolf

I keep saying it but every game is now a must win game. The playoff placed teams have now pulled away from the chasing pack and only wins now will secure that elusive top six spot and lets face it after this many times the playoff games are anybody's. All it needs is confidence and determination.

The visitors tonight were the tractor boys and all the hype suggested that they were out for revenge for the drubbing given to them only two weeks ago. Ipswich can play attractive football and are having problems adjusting to this league, whereas Wolves have been here so long that apathy has set in - part of the muppet league furniture.

More fireworks at the start and they were needed tonight for this crucial six pointer. Nathan Blake made his first start for three months - a suprising choice for me as I expected Sturridge in for the injured Ndah. With no other changes, a rather settled side now, I was expecting some entertaining footy. Ipswich had only one bent boy in the line up this time - two bent boys being too much!!

A fast and furious start with Wolves gaining two corners in the space of the first 4 mins, both wasted. Wolves were looking lively, in particular Newton (??) and Miller, with the former actually looking to go past players instead of passing backwards. The first real goal chance came on 30 mins when a Cameron cross was tamely headed on by Newton. Wolves started well with lots of possession but no real penetration. This seemed to change as they then decided, much to the fans frustration, to play the game like it was an away fixture. Allowing Ipswich to have the ball then soak up the pressure and attack on the break - just like we did to great effect against Palace. This is a dangerous tactic and does nothing for the fans nerves! But for all this type of play, real goal chances were few and far between. When there were any chances they fell to Wolves as Ipswich had only two chances all night, but Wolves woefully wasted any opportunity that came their way. This was very surprising considering the number of goals we are scoring at the moment.

On 35 mins the ref got involved - nothing unusual where Wolves are concerned. Miller was put through on goal and with only the keeper to beat was blatantly pulled back by Gaardsoe. The ref knew that to give a foul would mean a sending off so he gave nothing. Miller and then Ince and then the fans told the ref what they thought, but how many times have we been in this situation? Just moments later Cameron was bundled over in the box, only for the appeals yet again to fall on deaf ears. This seemed to gee up Wolves as Cameron then had a fierce shot well saved and the crowd joined in with resounding boos for Gaardsoe and cries of "you don't know what you're doing" for the ref.

On 40 mins, an Ince through ball found Kennedy who with a one-on-one with the keeper, on his favourite foot ballooned the ball wide when it was easier to score. It was all Wolves at the end of the half, but we were wasteful.

HT Wolves 0 Ipswich 0

The second half started fast again with both teams trying, although Ipswich couldn't muster an attempt on goal they had a lot of the play. It changed on 48 mins when an Irwin crafted pass fell to Miller who flicked it into the path of Ince who volleyed the ball home. Wolves 1 Ipswich 0 and much deserved.

The goal improved the game somewhat with both teams trying harder to gain the upper hand. Again Ipswich had a lot of the ball but no chances, maybe this was a tactic of Wolves? When Wolves did get forward they always looked dangerous and more likely to score. Proudlock came on for a tired looking Blake on 60 mins, then Miller (much to his disgust) was subbed for Sturridge on 80 mins. Wolves were looking comfortable without over-stretching themselves, but oh how a two goal cushion would be nice. On 82 mins Ipswich brought Naylor on and went to a four forward attack. Obviously Joe Royal could sense something. He didn't have to wait long as just 2 mins later, a needless freekick given away saw it float into the area and - with the Wolves defence asleep - Naylor headed home with his first and probably only touch of the game. Wolves 1 Ipswich 1. This was a real sucker punch, one that was not expected and certainly not deserved. Right on the end of the 3 mins of added time Wolves gave away another freekick on the edge of the "D", but this time Murray was awake enough to deal easily with it.

On the night this was two points lost due to complacency, although two weeks ago I would have settled for four points from Ipswich.

Norwich losing against the surprise team of the season, saw the gap between 6th and 7th place increase to seven points and so I won't be too hard on the boys this time. DJ's tactics (didn't know he had any) of playing on the break at home is a dangerous one, but it seems to work more than the usual kick and rush at the moment, so we will see. The next two league games - Reading and then Portsmouth away - are crucial and will really test the resolve of the players, manager and fans alike.

As long as we don't lose either game I believe that we will be playing two finals at Cardiff in May.

Keep it up lads almost there!!!!

FT Wolves 1 Ipswich 1
