Report by JD Wolf

I keep saying it but - "this was another massive game". How many times have we been in this position, play the decent teams and we get a result, play the dregs and we don't bother turning up? Is it because Wolves think that they have a divine right to win? No motivation, no commitment, no tactics (high ball hoofing again) and no effort. After getting 3 points from 2 difficult games (I expected 2 points) another 3 points was essential - and expected. Stoke came into the game desperate for points lying third from bottom. I expected the usual poor boys tactics of a nine man defence and wasn't disappointed - so if I knew it was coming surely DJ could have?

The Stoke supporters (not fans) reputation came way before them - No pubs open in the city centre, no beer on sale in the ground and more police on patrol than Stoke supporters and a helicopter to boot (shame we can't have this kind of service more often, then maybe it would be safe to leave your homes - sorry I've lost the plot somewhat). To get a drink most went into Asda and downed the beer on the carpark - wasn't that more dangerous than allowing the pubs to be open, contained and segregated? I felt like a skool kid drinking cans of cider behind the bike sheds - yet another police success, just like being able to park your car safely in the city centre!!!

If they were that worried why not ban the Stoke supporters or at least play the game early Saturday morning? Ridiculous to say the least, and the atmosphere inside the ground was dead - no banter absolutely nothing! What was needed was an inspired Wolves team aiming to consolidate their precarious position. What we got was completely the opposite.

Stoke lined up with 12 men at the back or so it seemed, but this was justified when such a c***p team, in a dire relegation position play a seemingly promotion play-off team aspiring to leave the division via the right end. Wolves lined up with the usual regulars, as the injuries and illnesses from the weekend cleared up. You would expect Wolves being at home to such a lowly team would blitz them from the kick off - pound them into submission within 5 mins. But this is Wolves and what we experienced was the old patient build up way of passing the ball sideways and backwards at a snails pace hoping to bore the opposition to death.

And so the game went on, no penetration, no attempts on goal and no menace anywhere on the pitch.

This type of play is frustrating and surely DJ should realise this by now? All that it does is give the opposition confidence and frustrate the fans, who in turn get on the players backs which knocks out any self belief that the team may have. Maybe DJ should go and watch a few other games to get some ideas - or preferably go and manage a Sunday league somewhere in outer Mongolia!

The only thing that happened in the first half was on 30 mins when an Irwin cross was met in the box by a totally clear Rae who somehow managed to head the ball, from 8 yards out against the corner flag.

More frustrations and then a chorus of boos greeted the half time whistle.

FT Wolves 0 Stoke 0

The second half continued as the first. Stoke content to sit back and soak up any Wolves pressure - they needn't have worried as like Molineux premiership football, it won't come. In fact not once did any Stoke defender get past the half way line - presumably they would get nose bleeds from being so high up!

Proudlock replaced Sturridge on 58 mins and for a short time Wolves looked more menacing, but it didn't last. With the crowd praying for something, on 76 mins Cameron came on for Rae and Cooper came on for Newton but this did little to assist the situation. Naylor did manage a speculative shot which the keeper did well to parry and in the dying minutes, Kennedy had a shot hoofed off the line before Cameron came close to an effort. But as usual it was too little too late.

This was a dismal performance, a particularly insipid and uninspiring effort which did little for the nerves or advancement on the league table. In his after match blurb, DJ couldn't help but have a dig at the whingers. But we pay our money and EXPECT the team to play, we don't expect a win each time but some effort now and again would be appreciated. It's apparent that DJ can not hack this league, he can not motivate nor apply tactics to combat such negative tactics applied by countless less-than-worthy teams.

Its clearly apparent that he must go, not now - lets have the satisfaction of him being sacked at the end of the season. Lets hope its done early enough for the board to appoint someone with the bottle to get us out of this hell hole.

FT Wolves 0 Stoke 0

ps I would still love dearly to eat humble pie and admit I am wrong about DJ, but somehow I know that I won't be.
