Wolves failed to cut down forest after making a super start at the city ground last night.
Wolves went into last night's televised game in confident mood after the impressive 1-0 win at Grimsby. It certainly showed as wolves made a great start in front of 27,000 crowd.
With both teams needing just 3 wins apiece to secure a play-off spot, the opening moments proved frantic. Kennedy fired a shot straight at the keeper and Reid was disappointed to see his shot go wide for the home side. With just under 10 minutes on the clock, Wolves caught forest on the back foot. Irwin's hopeful clearance spun wickedly in front of Dawson, deceiving the young defender. Blake used all his power and experience to hold off the forest centre back to fire Wolves in front Forest 0 Wolves 1.
Forest still seemed to opt for patience in their play and should have levelled the game when Johnson headed over from close range after good work from Reid. Wolves were conceding most of the possession but still looked dangerous on the counter attack with captain Ince always looking to drive his team forward. It was the former England man's looping through ball which set up Cameron for goal number 2. The Scotsman brought the ball down superbly before hitting his right foot shot past the despairing dive of Ward. DJ's 4-3-3 formation had silenced the home support in just 25 minutes Forest 0 Wolves 2. Forest needed a goal badly and Johnson was denied by a breath taking tackle by Lescott on 33 minutes. Wolves hopes of getting to half-time 2 goals up were dashed when Johnson scored on 39 minutes. The Forest forward beat the Wolves off-side trap before lashing in Reid's through ball. It was the first goal Murray had conceded in 486 minutes of first division football. Forest 1 Wolves 2

With Forest grabbing that late first half goal, Wolves now had to try and protect their precious lead whilst trying once again to sting Forest on the break. Forest looked determined to equalize. On 57 minutes, Rae was harshly booked for kicking the ball away when it appeared the Scotsman had genuinely missed the ref's whistle. Forest created little for all their effort but went close when Reid dragged his shot just inches wide.
Wolves looked to have contained the Forest fire until ref Leake awarded a dubious free kick against Edworthy. It even earned the Wolves defender a booking. It seemed rough justice for the man brought on to replace the injured Irwin. Scimeca swung in the free kick which Murray fumbled. The ball dropped to the head of Dawson who nodded it goal wards. Naylor seemed to clear it, but the linesman, after much hesitation, signalled for a goal. Forest 2 Wolves 2 Wolves response was immediate and Blake was denied by both Dawson and Ward in the packed goal area. Wolves introduced Ndah for Miller in search of a late winner. Both teams looked capable of winning it, but in the end a draw seemed a fair result in the pulsating match.
On reflection most fans would take a draw last night coupled with Tuesday's win. But it's hard for the old gold army not to be disappointed at seeing a 2 goal lead thrown away. Seven more points needed for a play-off place, lets hope Wolves bounce back and beat Millwall in a week's time.
