Report by Deck Shoe Wolf

Wolves are in the Premier league..........

Even seeing these words the morning after the night before, it's still hard to believe. Wolves are back in the big time after a 19 year exile, which has been an emotional rollercoaster.

Wolves put on a super show of awesome attacking football to blunt the Blades and give the 33,500 gold and black army a day out we'll never forget.

Consistency is a word rarely used when describing Wolves, but the club followed up the diabolical ticket distribution with an equally chaotic coach departure. The majority of the coaches left long after the 8.00am departure time.

Once there Wolves fans showed little sign of nerves as they turned the streets of Cardiff into a sea of old gold and black. Every pub, club and bar was packed to the rafters, with fans eager to sample the Welsh hospitality (there was even a queue for the local Spar!!).

The Millennium Stadium looks impressive enough on TV, but to be there and see it is unbelievable. Wembley will have to pull out all the stops to match this stunning stadium. After a few beers and a chat with the stewards (the most friendly and helpful I've known at any ground), I was ready to take my seat for our biggest game in recent memory. If Wolves players needed to be reminded of the length of the top flight absence, the banner in the south stand said it all "19 years, 13 days, 22 hours 20 minutes".

Wolves kicked off in a white hot atmosphere and got off to a dream start. With 5 minutes gone, Miller picked up Blakes flick on, weighed up his options and rolled the ball to his left into the path of Kennedy. The Irish winger hit an unstoppable drive past Kenny in the Blades goal. Sheff Utd 0 Wolves 1

Wolves were looking strong with Ince and Cameron bossing the midfield. On 20 minutes it was the Scottish number 10, Cameron who went close to doubling the lead. He finished a strong run with a fine shot which Kenny tipped around the post.

However, United could keep the Wolves from the door no longer and Blake scored from the resultant corner. Ince headed goalwards and Blake headed in with the faintest of touches. Sheff Utd 0 Wolves 2. The barmy army had the south stand rocking as Wolves had settled the nerves in some style. Sheffield Utd created little but were almost given a life line on 40 minutes. Ince headed a cross towards his own goal, but Murray brilliantly pushed the ball out. Minutes later Irwin was booked for a clumsy challenge on Ndlovu. Blades boss Warnock thought the Irish man had got off lightly. He was later sent to the stands by ref Bennett for throwing one toy too many from his pram.

Wolves finished the half emphatically, by all but killing the game off. Miller smashed in Newton's cross to send the club tantalisingly close to Premiership Football. Sheff Utd 0 Wolves 3

United's best hope of a comeback came just 2 minutes after the re-start, as Butler was harshly penalised for a hand ball, in the box. Brown saw his weak spot kick saved by man-of-the-match Matt Murray. After that Wolves were happy to defend against a demoralised Blades team. A task made easier with a little help from Kennedy's hand and a post. As the minutes ticked away the party started, even Sir Jack allowed himself a smile when he appeared on the big screen. The final whistle was greeted by hugs, tears, songs and cheers. A comprehensive 3-0 victory even Stuperstitious Wolf could not have predicted (Stup said 3-2, with Miller and Kennedy scoring!! see Stuperstitious Wolf's Predictions).

After the presentation every player got their hands on the cup, but the loudest cheer was for Sir Jack.

Finally some SILVER ware for the GOLDEN tit.

A season influenced by last years hurt, quality football (at times) and lucky pants (JD Wolf swears by them!) has finally produced Premiership football. 13 years stuck in this new division will do me just fine.

Thanks to Sir Jack, DJ and the lads for not having to make me write a losing match report.
