Match Report by JD Wolf

Well DJ asked for it at the weekend, saying he would rather win and play rubbish than play well and lose. Wolves won but the performance was worse than rubbish.

A healthy crowd of over 25,000 turned up on a cold January night to witness as an inept performance as you will ever see here at Molineux. The sizeable Kiddie following of some 4,000 were sarcastically singing "Premier league and having a laugh", but laugh was the last thing on my mind. With the entrance price reduced for juniors, there was an awful lot of them here - not that I oppose too much, its just that it gets too much seeing all that fake Burberry and gold in one place. Especially when it seemed to be confined to the area around my seat, and being so close to kiddie fans; 12 year old apprentice stone islanders trying to impress pubescent girls was too much. I soon found an empty seat further up - am I too old for this game?

DJ decided to give a rest to the majority of established team and give some of the others a chance. So in came Clyde at left back (and right back later!), Luzney, Gudjonsson, Andrews, Miller and a home debut for Ivo Ganea. From the start the Wolves line up looked lop sided and woefully lacking in team awareness and confidence.

Wolves started as if they had the divine right to win and just by turning up would be enough, hadn't we learned from the previous game? Wolves looked nervous and continually just hoofed the ball forward hopeful that one of the two strikers would latch onto it. The first real chance fell to Kiddie with (not for the first time) Wolves defence being left flat footed as a freekick was met by their "gypo" striker Bo Hendriksen, who really should have done better. Former Wolves man Graham Ward was only inches wide with a wild shot just a few minutes later.

Wolves huffed and puffed but could not get a grip on the game. We seemed to be lacking in that killer touch in midfield - woefully missing the ball getting antics of Ince or Rae. Up front Kennedy had not been listening to DJ as his form presently would not get him in a Sunday league team. His crossing and particularly corners were nothing short of dreadful. Ivo had a bright start, showing strength and imagination, with a will to run after the ball, whilst Miller looked to erase the memory of the last few months.

Wolves first real chance fell to Miller when he picked up on a through ball, but slipped on the edge of the box just as he was going to pull the trigger. However things changed for the better on 36 mins. A free kick by Kennedy was crossed over to the far post for Ivo to head back across the box for Miller to rise higher than anyone else and head home his first goal since October. Wolves 1 Kidderminster 0

The relief on players and fans was so very obvious. Wolves seemed to pick up a gear and had more of the ball for the remainder of the first half. However the only other real chance was a free kick on the edge of the "D", but Kennedy ballooned his effort well over the ball.

Half time Wolves 1 Kidderminster 0

I was expecting a super, splendid, skilful second half showing - what we got was much the same as the first half. Wolves could not find a meaningful way through or get to grips with the game. Kiddie tried, but to be fair the difference in league places should have shone through. Maybe it was Wolves coming down a level, it certainly didn't seem that way. We may have had the majority of play but could not convert this to goals, whilst Kiddie refused to lie down and die.

On 65 mins Wolves got the lucky break that would finish the game. Miller collected a throw in from the ambling Luzney and from some distance out on the right wing, lifted in a hopeful looking cross that somehow glanced past their keeper and off the post before being blasted away by a defender. However, the "Russian" linesman who was some distance away decided it had somehow crossed the line - and the delighted Miller spun off to celebrate. Not one to dispute dodgy decisions from "the men in black" the team and fans alike celebrated. Wolves 2 Kidderminster 0 . This was a killer blow to Kiddie who looked the more likely to score and it was apparent that it knocked the stuffing out of them - aka Wolves against Charlton at the weekend.

A little later Oakes and Gypo got involved in "handbags" as the keeper fluffed his catch to drop on the ball to collect it. Gypo stuck a late foot in and somehow the rest of both teams got involved. It earned both Oakes and Bo Hendriksen a booking and certainly warmed the crowd up as most were starting to fall asleep.

Kiddie bought on their goalscorer Williams on as sub and he did cause a little discomfort in the Wolves defence but the game drizzled out to a not so deserved victory for Wolves and a tempting home clash with West Ham in the next round. DJ managed to destroy any confidence left in Silas as he bought him on as sub with 1 minute of injury time remaining. The poor bloke must really love it here!

To be honest this game was just dreadful! And here lies some of the problems - inconsistency. How we could outplay Charlton last week to perform like this 3 days later is beyond me.

Oakes cannot command his box, Luzney is far too fat and slow, Clyde was played in a position he is totally unsuited for. Whilst Andrews proved he isn't good enough, Gudjonsson the same and Kennedy is just well sh*** at present. The game could not have done anything confidence wise for the team except maybe Miller and Ivo. If Manure had anyone watching this game they must have gone back laughing as if we are like this on Saturday then we will be "kicking off" every 5 mins never mind Lawrenson's 15 mins.

I hope that DJ and the gang had a sleepless night over this because he really needs to play his get out of jail card pretty quickly. I appreciate that we may have been dragged down to a level that we are not used to but professional footballers need to rise to every occasion (ask them lot at Newcastle - they seem to be able to!!!)

One last point is DJ's treatment of Silas. I am not a big fan of Silas and have only seen bits of play at premier level besides his sidekick show with Gazza in the reserves. But he doesn't deserve to be humiliated like he was - he should have completed the whole game and then be judged on his performance then. Who knows what is going through DJ's mind!!!!!!!!
