Wonderful Wolves managed to upset the form book and several thousand manure
fans with a spectacular victory that will rate as one of the finest in
Molineux history.
In front of a new Molineux record crowd of 29,396, Wolves faced a near
impossible task of beating the top of the table champions.
DJ made changes but still went for a 4-4-2 formation, with Iversen and
Miller up front in a solid if unspectacular line up.
Manure had Scholes and Van Nistelrooy upfront as they looked to maintain
their title charge. A difficult afternoon looked in store for the club
rooted to the foot of the table.
Even without Ryans Giggs Manure still looked formidable opposition. The
opening exchanges proved Wolves would not be overawed by one of the best
supported teams in China.
Wolves looked comfortable with Ince and Rae bossing midfield, but Scholes
always looked a threat for the visitors. Wolves missing Henri Camara to the
African nations Cup lacked pace upfront. The much-abused Rio Ferdanand kept
Miller quiet whenever Wolves pushed the ball forward.
Wolves only chances were long range efforts from Rae and Ince. Manure had
long spells of possession but with the unreliable Ronaldo forgetting to take
the ball with him down the line Utd's final ball let them down.
Manure always looked a threat but their best chance fell 5 mins before the
break. Van Nistelrooy headed over just yards out. The prolific Dutch man
rarely misses such easy chances, maybe it could be our day...
Both teams went into the break all square. The gulf between top and bottom
having been dramatically reduced in just 45 minutes.

Arrogant Utd decided to take the field first in the second half leaving the
unchanged host to follow at the correct time.
Within five minutes of the second half Utd were dealt a huge blow when
Ferdinand limped out the action, he never recovered from a knock in the
first half. The defender must of forgotten to wear his shin pads!
Wolves almost then broke the dead lock. Ince struck the ball sweetly from
20 yards out only for the ball to come back off the post.
With Wolves fans sensing something big the noise level went through the
roof. Utd looked under pressure but still forced Oakes into a fine save
from a Scholes shot. Bellion replaced Fletcher but still Utd lacked a
cutting edge.
With just over 20 minutes to play Wolves punished Utd's indecision. Miller
picked the ball up on the right, the Scotsman drifted in and left Brown on
the floor before picking his spot superbly to give Wolves a deserved lead.Wolves 1 Man Utd 0
Utd brought on Folan in a desperate attempt to draw level. yet the best
chance to score the next goal fell to Wolves. Irwin's curling free kick was
tipped over the bar by Howard.
Despite what seemed like an eternity of added time (still not enough for
Fergie), Wolves held on for an historic victory. The last ten minutes or so
were the type all football fans dread.
Wolves were written off by more than a few so called experts before this
game. Only Wolves fans can appreciate the fight and determination in this
team.
Is there any hope for DJ and the boys? Only a fools hope....
