Match Report by Bushbury Wolf

'A crucial crunch class'; 'A must win game'; 'A relegation six-pointer'; Take you pick of any number of clichés - this was a very important match. But - as Johnny Vaughan said on Radio 5 Live when someone said this game was a six-pointer - "hold on, we've just heard, there's only three points to the winner". The truth is, this game was a must-not-lose game for Wolves rather than a must-win. And that was achieved.

Wolves made only change from the side which dominated against Fulham with Irwin recovering enough to replace Clyde. Leicester chose to leave Ferdinand on the bench which - given the way that he terrorised the Wolves defence in the first half of the reverse fixture earlier in the year - was surprising. Maybe Steve Cotterill, standing in for Leicester manager Micky Adams, was troubled by their poor showings in the second half of matches and was going to use him to bolster them in the second half. Certainly Leicester should be perplexed by their second half showings - according to 5 Live they would be third in the league if games ended at half time.

I was expecting a tighter game than the goal-fest roller coaster that was the game at Molineux, but I still expected goals, which is probably just as well, as Leicester had the Foxes' share of the chances.

Wolves weathered an early storm as Leicester tried to make amends for the embarrassing second half drubbing that they experienced at Molineux. But it was a scrappy first half hour or so, with Steward shooting over the bar and a Freund shot being saved by Jones.

Leicester nearly took the lead on the half hour when the oh-so-nearly-aptly-named Dickov beat Jones to a cross and sent in a goal-bound header, but Naylor got across and hooked the goal-bound ball clear.

Wolves carved out their best chance of the first half just before half time when Kennedy, who was having a good game for a change, sent in pinpoint cross for Miller whose looping header was brilliantly saved by the hapless Walker.

The closest Leicester came to opening the scoring in the first half was when Scowcroft (actually it was Guppy1 - ed) shot into the side netting from close range. The chance was overshadowed by a scuffle between Rae and Dickov. The two tangled during the build up and Diving Dickov head-butted Rae. Rae fell to the ground, but I have the feeling that if this had happened off the pitch then there would have been a different outcome. The ref strangely didn't even book anyone.

Half time Leicester 0 Wolves 0

The second half was even more scrappy than the first half, with mistakes a-plenty, and chances few and far between. Early on Camara seemed to have sprung the Leicester defence, but Heath slid in to cut out the chance.

Leicester dominated territorially, but they were unable to create any chances. Ganea replaced an out-of-sorts Miller and Cotterill brought on Ferdinand, but neither forward managed to break the deadlock.

Ganea only got one real chance, but he shot straight at the goalkeeper when the ball came to him in the area. Ferdinand came closer to scoring late on in the game, but his header was brilliantly saved by Jones.

Oh..and somewhere in there Dickov dived (yet again), but this time the ref was sharp enough to spot it for what it was. Just a shame he didn't book him.

So a scrappy, ill-tempered game drew to a close, with a solitary point the reward for both teams.

Where does a point leave us? Well, it still gives us an outside chance of staying up, but it leaves Leicester with a smaller one. And it lifted us out of the bottom three (at least for a day) - wouldn't it be nice if we were there at 5 o'clock on May 15th?

Full time Leicester 0 Wolves 0
