Match Report by Deck Shoe Wolf

No skill, no fight, no ideas and more importantly no points for a Wolves team now staring relegation square in the face.

With positive results on Saturday and a 2 week break the home faithful were looking for an upbeat performance as Wolves looked to climb out of the bottom 3.

DJ started with Cort and Ganea up front with Camara on the left in a tried and tested 4-4-2 formation. Villa came to Molineux with Angel and Vassell in attack as they looked to climb to 7th in the table.

Before kick off both sets of fans observed a minutes silence for the victims of the Madrid bombings impeccably. Unfortunately, it would not be the only time that afternoon the home crowd would be speechless.

Villa attacking the North Bank goal hit the ground running and tore into Wolves from the start. After dominating the opening exchanges Villa took a deserved lead after only 7 minutes. Hitzlsperger found time and space in the box before lashing in a ferocious dipping shot into the far corner of the goal Wolves 0 Villa 1 .

Wolves defense looked over run by Villa's constant wave of attack and conceded 7 corners in the first 10 minutes. As we've seen on many occasion this season Wolves look vulnerable at set pieces so it was no surprise to anyone when Villa doubled the lead through a corner kick. Despite having 11 men in the box not one man in a gold shirt picked up the run of Mellberg. The Swedish defender's powerful header hit the net before any of the home side could react Wolves 0 Villa 2.

Despite conceding a 2nd goal Wolves showed little urgency with the normally dominant Ince and Rae being out played by a Villa team looking to kill the game off early.

Just 5 minutes later Villa cruelly exposed Wolves defensive frailties when Angel made it 3. A hopeful through ball caused confusion between Naylor and Jones leaving Angel the chance to steal the ball and score with ease Wolves 0 Villa 3.

Shell-shocked Wolves looked beaten and the stray Paul Ince header was all they had to offer in reply. Wolves could have easily been 4 down when the lively Hendrie smacked a shot against the bar as Villa attacked at will.

With just minutes left of the first half Wolves were given a life-line by ref Durkin. The official penalized Mellberg for his foul on Ganea. The Romanian got up to take the spot kick himself. Sorenson guessed right to save the weak attempt to sum up Wolves miserable half.

The chorus of boo's that rang around Molineux were no more than the home side deserved.

Half time Wolves 0 Villa 3

Villa started the 2nd half happy to leave Vassell and Angel up front in an attempt to catch desperate Wolves on the break.

Any hope of doing a "Leicester" disappeared on the hour mark when Angel burst clear to poke a crisp shot past Jones to wrap the game up for Villa Wolves 0 Villa 4.

Misery for Wolves, Angel delight for Villa.

Clyde and Iverson replaced Irwin and Cort respectively as both teams went through the motions in front of a fast dwindling home support.

The Villa chants of **** off to the Nationwide seemed out of order, don't they know the sponsor as changed, it's the Coca Cola league we will be ****ing off to!

The final whistle signalled the end of surely the worst home performance of the season.

The nature of this defeat suggests that Wolves now look doomed. Wolves surrendered too easily in a game many marked down as a home win. We'll face tougher opposition then this in the run in, with an error-ridden defense and a goal shy attack, just reaching the 30 point mark looks ambitious.

A bad way for the club to end a week when a future Wolves number 9 was born. Congratulations to Fat Stat on the birth of his son Sam. Let's hope he never has to witness such a shocking a display.
