Match Report by JD Wolf

What was supposed to be an end of season party ended up as a wake. The passing of the Premiership had been a formality for several weeks but it didn't stop the odd tear - even in an old cynical *** like me.

Molineux was awash with colour to give a send off or plea to stay depending on your preferences - old gold and black; red, yellow and green (Senegal) and green (Ireland) were the order of the day. The Express and Star had asked for the ground to be filled with Senegal flags to remind Henri of home - it's a shame that Burberry isn't his home flag as he would have felt at home all season! (thanks for that one Deckshoe).

Henri Camara has been one of the finds of the season, but let's not forget that for the first three quarters of the season he couldn't hit a barn door from six yards out. Wolves have transformed an unknown fringe player into Premiership quality - let's hope he (and his agent) remember that in the close season.

Some trouble in the subway just before the game saw the stoneislander-burberrys packing out the front of the subway - I wonder if any of them actually saw what happened!!

The game was preceded by a minute's silence for the late and great Dennis Wilshaw. Fair play to Spurs fans the minutes silence was kept with immaculate respect - except for some idiot's phone but the loud "switch the ***** off was heard by all.

With Rae on the bench and Irwin playing his final game, in a noisy party atmosphere Wolves exploded from the blocks intent on gaining the extra income for finishing two places higher. With only 20 seconds on the clock Ince had a delightful chip finger-tipped away by the American goalie. Within minutes Wolves were on the attack again but the defender did enough to put Camara off after a wonderful one-two between Kennedy and Naylor. Camara was brought down in the box but the pleas were turned away.

Then Wolves hit the woodwork twice inside two minutes. First Cort had a header against the bar and then Irwin almost had his swansong when his free-kick from 25 yards out scraped the post. It would have been justice to Wolves who had all of the play and sweet bliss for Irwin if he had scored, with the crowd insistently chanting his name.

The game then settled and Ince was harshly booked for trying to tempt the ref into giving a penalty. The game turned and the party ended on 35 mins when - who else? - Robbie Keane blasted in a goal after some sloppy Wolves defending. Wolves 0 Tottenham 1 and that man again! Keane again refused to acknowledge his goal as Wolves and Spurs fans alike chanted his name - in truth he won't get much of an easier goal again.

The game turned scrappy as Wolves looked to have given up against what was really a very poor Tottingham team.

Half time Wolves 0 Tottenham 1

Our half time interval was ruined again as (we all know how beer should be served) the plastic bottles of beer served (ingenious eh Jezzica?), ran out and with no pumps on I was left with a soup! How many brain cells do you need to realise the extra income and less frustration it would take to sort out this annoying little problem?????

The second half started as the first had finished with Wolves looking washed out, the goal had knocked the stuffing out of them and they looked totally void of any imagination. The game remained a typical end of season affair. On 57 mins Naylor miscued a pass which put Cort in all sorts of problems, but instead of the "if in doubt" rule he decided to try and back pass the ball to Jones, unfortunately he couldn't have weighted the ball any better if he had tried and Defore easily rounded Jones to slot home. A gift of a goal and not for the first time this season. Wolves 0 Tottenham 2

On 67 minutes the game effectively ended when a tired lunge from Ince saw him take Rednapp's feet - a terrible tackle which earned him his second yellow and Wolves down to ten men. Rae came on for his final Wolves' appearance but the game was lost. The match was then littered with fouls as both teams longed for the final whistle. With two mins left Irwin was substituted to allow him to get the applause he so rightly deserved after his long and splendid career.

At the end as most players exchanged shirts, Isaac ran over to the South Bank, where they had been singing a song about him to the tune of the Hokey Cokey and threw his shirt into the crowd. A sign of appreciation as his season finished on a high.

At the end of the game most Wolves' fans stayed behind to watch the player of the year award. As Jezzica walked up to give out the young players award to Clyde he was soundly booed by the massive Wolves following - when will this bloke get the message that he is not liked or wanted here?

By a strange quirk of fate - not fixed in anyway (?) Henri Camara was given the player of the season award - not trying to bribe him to stay Jezzica? If he doesn't want to be here then he can go, too many foreign mercenaries are spoiling the game - give me a team of Bully's any day!

And yes I do mean Camara can go - let's not forget that he has only shown flashes of his talent - if it wasn't for Wolves he would be playing third division French football now - and how low is that??

The season has been a good one even though we have been relegated. I've always said that just to be there was enough, but I sensed that with a bit of luck some proper refs and being able to defend for 100 mins we could have been in the Premiership another season. At the end of the day we were only 6 points adrift and lets face it for what effectively was a mediocre first division squad we could have done better. You can point to the points lost - notably the Man City equalizer in the 105th minute. But we all knew what to expect before the season kick off - how come the management of the club couldn't see it?

However after all is said and done I go into next season with a lot of pride and anticipation of an immediate return - after all if the ugly footy played by the Bennies can do it, surely we can also, especially without the need to sell anyone. Roll on the Coca Cola I'm already frothing at the mouth (so to speak).

The fat lady has sung and it wasn't pretty.

See you all next season - keep the Faith!!!

JD's Most memorable moments 2003-04

  • Biggest abuse given - to Danny Mills, 90 mins of pure hatred!
  • Craziest own goal - Alan Smith's goal for us v Leeds
  • Greatest come back - 4-3 against Leicester
  • Biggest cheat - Kevin Phillips for his dive from the half way line to get a penalty or Useless Rennie for his hatred of Wolves.
  • Worst Ref - Useless Rennie
  • Team that cheated the most - Southampton. I have never seen a whole team cheat as much. I had no feelings either way before but now hate them with a vengeance.
  • Most spectacular goal - Alex Rae against Bolton, Kennedy's away at Man City, Camara's against Bolton, Middlesborough or Everton - can't decide!!
  • Longest game- the 105 minutes we played against Man City - nice ground though! Oh and Jezzica have a look how they run things up there!
  • Being on the TV every Saturday night - albeit for only 2 mins at midnight!!!
