Match Report by JD Wolf

Welcome back to reality; welcome back to the division from hell!!!!

I never expected it to be easy, this season, but it appears DJ's motley crew are determined to do it the hard way. After the no show at Stoke, I assumed that this bunch of overpaid fairies would make amends and sort themselves out in preparation for the all together different prospect of Leeds on Saturday. No disrespect to Preston (who have "hit the ground running"), but they will probably not be contenders for promotion next season - however they certainly humiliated a make shift Wolves team.

A balmy summer evening, just the right conditions for a game. Having a "Rover" ticket, we sat in the lower Steve Bull (somehow I think we will be in this stand more this season) and taking a Spanish student with me, I was hoping to convert him from Athletico Madrid - some hope with this showing.

With the beer prices going up 13% (but the staff's wages remaining the same) it means more coppers for Jezzica's pie delivery man!

Where is all the extra money going??????

Wolves started with Kennedy replacing Naylor at left back and giving Edwards and Bjorklund their home debuts in defence. With so many injuries (so early in the season???) 18 year old Leon Clark partnered Miller as a twin strike force.

The crowd were very subdued and were soon suicidal as Wolves were 2-0 down within 15 mins. Wolves started at a lacklustre pace and found it very difficult against a Preston team determined to grab all 3 points.

On only 4 mins the Wolves defence failed to clear a corner and the follow up cross fell loose which was bundled "home" – although from where I was it looked as if not all of the ball crossed the line as Ince tried in vain to hoof it clear. Wolves 0 Preston 1. Keeper Jones was then booed all evening as his attempts at keeping were a joke at times.

On 14 mins a bad body check on Kennedy, meant him leaving the field after damaging his knee. Tactics that Preston kept up all night. In a strange move Cameron replaced Kennedy - so a right footed player on as two left footed players sat warming the bench! Moments later a well-worked corner found the Wolves defence asleep again, and the ball was rifled home at the near post. Wolves 0 Preston 2 and Wolves were dying.

With no urgency Wolves were staring defeat in the face until "the ends" gave us a lifeline. Miller's high foot bounced off the face of one of there defenders and with the ref blowing for a foul and only two feet away he stood up and pushed Miller over with both hands. The ref (yet another poor one) had no choice but to send him off. So two up and down to ten men, Preston retreated and spent most of the time left defending.

Although a man up Wolves could only manage a couple of tame wide shots and headers on goal. Preston fans made the most of this singing the obligatory "premier league you ‘avin’ a laugh" (which I don't mind as it assumes we are premier league and they are conference - although you wouldn't think so watching it) or the one that made me smile - "are you Blackpool in disguise" , don't think our shirts are quite tangerine yet (don't tell Jezzica he will change strips half way through the season to buy yet more pies for himself!!).

Half time Wolves 0 Preston 2

For the first 30 mins of the second half, it was "as you were" with Wolves offering very little in ideas or penetration and very little to show for the worthless efforts. When Wolves did try something (usually long range shots) they found the B&LL Ends keeper in fine form - wonder if they wanna swop him for Jonesey??

Preston were defending resoundly - even if Wolves were not testing them properly and when they ventured up front they looked dangerous as the Wolves defence looked frightened.

Wolves will have to shore up at the back and very quickly to fend off any unwanted attacks and penetration in the coming months - much like Lee Hughlesss!

The "pressure" finally told and the excellent Preston keeper finally gave in on 76 mins, as a corner was turned back in by Cameron for Clarke to blast home through a packed six yard box from 5 yards out. Wolves 1 Preston 2 and Clarke was lucky as he appeared to head butt the fine shot stopper but time waster in his efforts to retrieve the ball. With their tails firmly up (sorry won't mention the ginger ****** again), Wolves sensed a comeback and with the kick off seemingly taking an age - as Clarke kept encroaching into the centre circle eager to get the game going.

Just 3 mins later a fine run through the defence by Newton saw him slide rule the ball through to Miller, who on the edge of the area rocketed the ball home off the underside of the bar 2.2 and the crowd sensed a Leicester styley comeback victory. It was almost to be as both Cooper and "George" were both denied fine shots on goal by top class saves from Preston's under 21 England keeper. Wolves 2 Preston 2

A Wolves win would have been injustice for the Ends as an inept performance by Wolves did not merit a victory.

Lets make no mistake this performance was utter ******. True they kept their heads and fought back to a draw, but we should not have been in this situation. Too many of the team just don't give a damn - one season in the premiership and they believe that they deserve to be there full time.

Get real!!

Miller obviously doesn't want to play for Wolves, Clarke isn't quite the finished article and the defence!! Jones, Craddock, Naylor (although he was the best of a bad bunch) Bjorklund and Edwards are not worthy of an old gold shirt. Lets hope Lescott is back soon

We need some inspiration from somewhere, and somehow I don't think it will come from DJ.

On that point I haven't mentioned it for a while but DJ please go and take the money grabbing board with you for the sake of Wolverhampton Wanderers!
