Match Report by Deck Shoe Wolf

Water way to end the week!

The good ship Wolves has hit some stormy weather of late but DJ and his crew found calmer waters with a well deserved win against highly placed QPR. Wolves were looking to add to Tuesday nights impressive victory over Derby by beating Ian Holloways QPR who have only tasted defeat once in eight games.

DJ brought back Lescott and paired the young defender with loan signing Bischoff in the centre of defence, Craddock being relegated to the bench. Both teams lined up 4-4-2 as the rain swept over Molineux soaking the pitch and the unlucky fans seated at the front of each stand. (Fortunatly I'm on the back row of the Jack Harris, nice dry seat and a good view of the away fans getting soaked in the Steve Bull stand)

QPR started the better of the sides and soon won an early corner. Cameron mis-timed Cook's cross with the Scotsmans clearance hitting Rose before clipping the post.

Even in the early minutes of the game the pitch looked soaked with surface water splashing up from the players boots. The bad conditions could not be blamed when Seol wasted a promising opportunity. The South Korean failed to control the ball when sent clear by Cort's superb cross field pass.

Lescott treated the crowd to an excellent piece of skill out foxing the QPR midfield performing a drag back whilst getting up off the floor. Both teams were adapting to the conditions well with Cooper contuinuing his good form down the right flank.

Gallen then almost opened the scoring with an audacious chip. The rangers striker spotting Oakes off his line and the Wolves number 1 was relieved to see the ball hit the roof of the net.

With the ball slowing down on the heavy surface the best option looked to be keep the ball off the ground. Wolves did just that after 20 minutes. Wolves swept up the pitch with Cameron releasing Cooper with a neat through ball. Tuesday's 2 goal hero put in a superb cross that Cort directed past Day to give the home side the lead. Wolves 1 QPR 0

The goal spurred Wolves on and the home side looked to had doubled their lead just minutes later. Cort dispatched the ball into the net from Millers flick via a santos deflection. The linesman ruled offside. The fact that you can't be offside from a ball coming from an opponent seemed irrelovent and his decision was as welcome as a hole filled umbrella to someone sitting in row A of the Stan Cullis stand.

Wolves had the wind in their sails after the goal and in truth looked quite comfortable following Cort's opener.

Miller earned a yellow card late in the half for a delierberate hand ball much to the disgust of the home crowd who after many dodgy decisions recognised that Ref Probert was out of his depth on the flooded Molineux pitch. Olifinjana went close late on with a neat lob which Day stretched to save. The Nigerian was having agood game but his name is a bit tricky to type so you will only hear the important points. ( Bring back Ince with his leadership, quality and simple name!)

Half time Wolves 1 QPR 0

Wolves had the better of the opening exchanges as the rain contnued to pour over Molineux. Cort charged down a Day clearance only for Miller to waste the rebound.

Wolves then won a free kick 30 yards out but Cooper failed to follow up his midweek heroics by blasting straight at the wall.

The horific conditions did little to help attacking options. Accomplished water polo players would have struggled to find the back of the net. The away side had geniuine claims for a penalty waved away by Ref Probert when Bircham looked to be fouled by Cooper, maybe the ref's goggles were steamed up in the half time interval.

QPR looked desperate for a break through and Kennedy earned a booking for pulling back Bignot. Wolves suffered another heart stopping moment when Gallen's header struck the bar only for the ref to penalise the Rangers man for a foul on Oakes.

With just 20 minutes remaining Wolves Nigerian Number 4 seized control of the ball in midfield before threading it to Cort. The 2 million man lifted the ball past Day to make it 2 for Wolves and 2 for himself. Wolves 2 QPR 0

Just minutes later DJ replaced Seol with Newton hoping fresh legs would finish of a tired QPR.

Wolves loooked in cruise control with just 15 minutes left until Kenny Miller saw Red. Ref Probert showed the fierey Scot a second yellow card for disent after the Wolves striker looked to have been fouled yet again. The ref had given little to Miller all afternoon. A 75 minute shower turned into an early bath.

Deep into injury time Gallan gave the visitors some hope by lobbing Oakes with a superb effort from the edge of the box. Wolves 2 QPR 1

Wolves hung on to give DJ a priceless stay of exacution.

Wolves sunk QPR to gain 3 valuable points and on the most gloomy of Molineux days maybe the black clouds are beginning to drift away from DJ and his team.

Final Thought - last time DJ faced this kind of pressure Wolves stormed into the Premiership with an excellent winning run, let's hope history repeats itself....
