Wolves may have at last found a new manager but the elusive search for consistency drags on. On the day the club announced ex-England boss Hoddle would be filling the Molineux hot seat for the next six months, the beleaguered home faithful were finally staring at some light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully a second win in four days to follow the beating handed out to Reading last Saturday. Hoddle was paraded in front of the fans prior to kick off provoking a mixed reaction from the home support. Some small sections of the crowd booed but that’s only to be expected, the former spurs legend as p****d a few people off in his colourful career. Stuart Gray in his last game in charge made one change from the Reading route, replacing Lowe with Northern Ireland international Mark Clyde. With a run of three straight defeats, Millwall boss Dennis Wise opted for a 3-pronged attack of Dobie, Dicho and Hayles as the Lions came in search of their first league win at Molineux since 1928. Wolves made a sluggish start to the game and were a goal down after just 9 minutes. Ex-swampie Scot Dobie scored his 1st Millwall goal after nipping in at the far post to smash the ball into the roof of the net. Wolves 0 Millwall 1 The flowing football of recent games seemed to dissolve as Wolves reverted to hopeless long balls at every opportunity. Andrews was the next to test Marshall but the Millwall stopper who once spent a loan spell at Wolves tipped the shot past the post. Olofinjana continued his impressive recent form covering every blade of grass in the midfield. The lanky midfield man surged forward every chance he got but he continues to be wasteful in front of goal. Three times big Olly had the crowd on their feet only to spurn promising opportunities. Wolves insistence on pumping the ball forward to Cort continued to prove fruitless as an under par Sturridge failed to latch on to any flick ons. Millwall having grabbed the early goal happily sat back and soaked up the pressure as the half time whistle was met by a chorus of boo's from the home crowd. Half time Wolves 0 Millwall 1 As past legends of the famous Honved match were paraded at half time to celebrate the 50th anniversary, new boss Hoddle must have been staring into his half time drink wondering what he'd done in a past life to deserve this job. Stuart Gray's last half time team talk seemed to do the trick as Wolves won an early penalty. Ward adjudged to have handled in the box, ref kettle's decision sending the Millwall players to boiling point. Cooper converted his 3rd spot-kick of the season (only just) to put wolves right back in the game. Wolves 1 Millwall 1 Wolves were quite literally having the lion’s share of possession but clear-cut chances were few and far between. Millwall then landed a sucker punch to snatch a lead with barely 20 minutes left. Hayles cross was deflected by Hobbit sized Jody Morris into the path of Dichio. The ex-Sandwell Town man slotted the ball past Oakes much to the delight of Millwall's tiny away following (no more than 200 rattling around in the bottom of the Steve Bull). Wolves 1 Millwall 2 Clarke replaced Strurride but was unable to repeat his weekend heroics. Andrews was disgracefully booed off when giving way for Seol but the lively South Korean failed to find a breakthrough. Forgotten man Miller replaced Cooper late on but all too familiar boo's rang around the golden palace as Kettle whistled for full time. Wolves are a team with problems. We lack a leader on the pitch, we use players out of position (Kennedy is not a left back) and we are still leaking goals. If Hoddle described the job as a challenge before the game - he now knows just what a challenge it is. Can the Ex-National Team boss really turn it around in just 6 months? Final Thought - Glenn Hoddle, Saint or Sinner? Full Time Wolves 1 Millwall 2 |
