Brand new year, same old story as Hoddle's draw specialists chalked up yet another stalemate. A fifth consecutive 1-1 draw was almost inevitable on the 1-1-05, but yet again Wolves only have themselves to blame as poor finishing and shocking defending keep the Molineux men firmly in the bottom half of the table. The driving rain and swirling wind hardly affected the attendance with Plymouth filling the lower Steve Bull and Wolves filling the temporary stand (a rarity on these dark days of The Championship). The 27,564 crowd observed a minutes silence for the Asian Tsunami victims impeccably. The clubs efforts to raise money inside and outside the ground were highly commendable. Hoddle named an unchanged side from the eleven that drew against Brighton on Tuesday. Newton again employed as a right back with Andrews and Cameron the preferred centre midfield pairing. Plymouth settled the quicker of the two sides and went close when Wooton struck a free kick into the side netting. Newton burst down the right flank in Wolves first meaningful attack of the game but the cross was a fraction too high for Miller. The conditions were making it difficult for both teams to play football with Plymouth looking more likely to score, winning two corners in quick succession. Evans went close with the first corner while Kennedy had to be alert to clear the second. Newton limped out of the game temporarily whilst he sustained a shin injury. Seol looked lively and won possession when picking up an Evans pass, the Korean surged forward but was dispossessed by a good tackle from Norris. With Plymouth looking comfortable Seol struck a stunning opening goal to give the home side the lead. The former Anderlecht man picked up the ball 30 yards out, with little movement from the static front men sent a stinging low drive that gave keeper Larrieu no chance. Wolves 1 Plymouth 0 A goal against the run of play 'Seol' destroying for the away team. For once our goal seemed to spur Wolves on with the home faithful urging the team on, a second goal seemed likely against the shell shocked Pilgrims. Just past the half hour mark Miller missed a golden opportunity. Seol sent the Scottish striker clean through on goal and after rounding the keeper, a simple tap in was denied by a timely tackle from Doumbe. The swift attack was all too much for ref Webster who had to receive treatment when pulling up injured chasing the play. The home crowd couldn't resist the chants of "Your not fit to referee". Minutes later Cameron's corner was only cleared as far as Kennedy on the edge of the area. The wingers crisp volley flew just inches over the bar. Miller again wasted a great chance to double the lead in first half injury time. Again Seol was the provider with a smart through ball but the inform hit man blasted wide. Half Time Wolves 1 Plymouth 0 Within a minute of the restart ref Webster had to stop play when a number of advertising hoardings blew onto the playing surface forcing the stewards on to remove the deadwood from the pitch. Unfortunately they forgot about Oakes and it was his error that gifted Plymouth an equalizer. The Wolves No 1 fumbled a dipping cross with the ball falling to Evans, the ex-swampie laid the ball into the path of Friio who made no mistake blasting the ball low into the net. Wolves 1 Plymouth 1 With the frustration spreading round the ground Craddock became the first player to be booked for a foul on Keith. Plymouth looked more likely to grab a winner as Kennedy was again forced to head clear Plymouth's 8th corner of the match. With just over 20 mins left Keith made way for new signing Taylor as Plymouth looked for maximum points at Molineux. Cort become the second player into the refs notebook when he received a yellow card for slamming the ball into the ground after being penalized for handball. Clarke replaced Cameron but fifteen minutes wasn't enough time for Wolves 3 pronged attack to break the 1-1 curse. The full time whistle was met with the now all to familiar chorus of boo's. The optimistic Wolves fan will tell you we're unbeaten under Hoddle, but the realistic Wanderer will point out that no wins over the festive period and games running out, it will be far from a happy new year for all at Molineux. Final thought - 1-1- When will Hoddles Hoodoo end????? Full Time Wolves 1 Plymouth 1 |
