What's that old saying? Same ***** different day? Well with Wolves it's same ***** different season! Not that we were particularly poor, just our inability - again - to defend for the full 90 minutes. This time (again?) it was Craddock who was left standing with seconds on the clock as Oslo Lyn's super Pygmy sub danced past him to slot home past the static Jones. In some respects it was cruel justice as Wolves had dictated most of the play with the majority of possession. I made the trip over with Stuperstitious Wolf; thanking Ryan air for some cheap flights (needing to save some money due to the price of the beer!) and found the whole experience uplifting. The city, people and bars (especially the Bohemen) being exceptionally sociable. Ullevaal Stadium was outstanding, its just a shame Lyn have so few supporters! Some 500 Wolves fans made the trip (although some didn't have quite as far to travel as others!) and the bright sunshine helped with the day. The makeshift PA system pumped out Wolves anthems to whip up the meagre crowd whilst the teams were introduced. Wolves lined up with a 4-4-2 formation with Kennedy at left back, Lowe at right and the trialist Mawene partnering Craddock in the centre of defence. Andrews, Ince, Cooper and Newton made up the midfield, with Ganea and Miller up front. Wolves started the better of the teams, with Ince and Miller shooting wide whilst Andrews' effort was ruled out for offside. At times Wolves looked impressive and on 15 mins their superiority showed as a neat Miller pass found Ince whose Exocet rocket shot burst the back of the net. 0-1 Wolves and the travelling fans went wild. .Shortly afterwards the Wolves pre-season curse struck as Ganea was felled by a hefty challenge. After some lengthy treatment he was stretched off for ice packs etc on his knee. The injury looked a troublesome one and lets hope he won't be out long, as up to this point he had been making quite a nuisance of himself. Ganea was replaced by Mulligan, who looked reminiscent of the bloated mulleted-one Adam Proudlock! The game changed somewhat and Oslo Lyn found themselves back in the game on 33 mins after a free kick wasn't dealt with adequately. Oslo Lyn 1 Wolves 1. Oslo Lyn came back into the game as confidence increased, but with few chances either way the ref blew for half time. Half Time Lyn Oslo 1 Wolves 1 The second half was scrappy as both teams struggled, in what was - let's face it - a nothing friendly. Both teams had chances but neither could prosper. DJ made only one change - Gobern for Lowe, which surprised me as I thought he might, with Lescott and Naylor on the bench, give some of the others a run around. However I'm sure some of the kids would have enjoyed the excellent ground. The game became a little eerie as the crowds singing died down. So much so that you could hear Ince having a good moan and Kennedy telling the linesman to "put your F'in flag up" much to the amusement of those around us. However Kennedy's words struck the wrong chord as in the dying seconds what should probably have been offside, resulted in the winning goal for Oslo. I'm not going to get too excited as after all it is just a friendly. DJ stormed off to the changing room at full whistle leaving the players to warm down in the centre circle. The result was meaningless but the performance should have been better! Being a bit of a saddo me and Stu stopped behind to grab some autographs. First out was Ganea who looked in a lot of discomfort, lets hope he isn't too bad. Most of the team made an appearance on the coach - some stopping missing the bus, probably out on the town after - notably Lescott!!! Thanks to the players who made the effort to sign Stu's shirt and Stop for Photo's A great experience and one I would recommend, however not for the footy!! Full Time Lyn Oslo 2 Wolves 1 |
