Report by JD Wolf

After the disappointment of last Sunday, a result here at Grimsby was important. Not only for moral, which seems to be ebbing away, but also to regain our spot at the top of the league. The writing should have been on the wall, Wolves with the best away record in the league against a third from bottom team with only six points from their last available forty two.

Wolves kicked off in all gold strip, I prefer this one to the "silver" one, but disaster in only 82 seconds. What seemed an innocent enough attack, saw a quite sensational overhead kick put them one up. I can't say that any one was at fault, it was just one of those goals that the chap will never score again, and no defence could have really done anything about it.Game on!

The response was for Wolves to up a gear and we seemed to take control, with some good wing play from Newton, Naylor and Kennedy. Then on just six minutes a lovely weighted free kick from Kennedy saw the ball glance off one of their many reject scum players, after pressure from the "diminutive" Sturridge and end up in the back of the net, yes 1.1.

So one all after only six minutes and it looked for a very short space of time that there would be much more to come. But oh dear again. we took our foot off the ball and played as though it was just another training session. For the second match in succession we showed that we have no match for teams who want to battle. Any team that closes us down, we seem to back off and yet with Rae and Cameron we probably have the best midfield duo in the Nationwide league. So what's going on? Kennedy is obviously not fit, he was taken off at the beginning of the second half for the frightening pace of Camara, and Proudlock came off for Roussel (why bother persisting with him its not gonna work now).

We probably had more of the game, certainly more corners - but we never score from corners. But as Grimsby are now, even at this early part of the season, are in a relegation battle and fighting for everything, we just rolled over and accepted the draw. At the end of the day a draw here was not good enough, we have thrown away our games advantage and could well be out of a play off place soon. Dave Jones certainly has his work cut out. How many times have we seen this sort of thing from Wolves over the past 17 years - too often. Cheque book time????

Overall another very disappointing performance, no motivation to get back to the top and no idea how to kick our way out of trouble. Same old story - see you next year?
