Same old story, all the play but can't kill off a poor mid table team that hasn't won for 8 games. We really did bombard their goal, camp in their half (pick your own cliche), but the ball just wouldn't go into the back of the net. On another day.....

Branch surprisingly came in for the suspended Newton - I expected to see Robinson on the wing and Andrews in the centre. As it was Robinson replaced Cameron (also suspended) and Andrews was on the bench.

It was a scrappy start to the game and Barnsley were obviously trying the "kick them and see if that puts them off" tactic that so often has worked against us this season. It certainly worked this time. Although Kennedy went close with a free kick they went even closer shortly after with a shot from a half-cleared corner which cannoned off the bar.

We were dominating, but just couldn't seem to put the finishing touch on things. Sturridge should have scored on the half hour when Blake put him through , but he ballooned his shot well over the bar with only the keeper to beat. Then a last minute tackle denied Blake inside the box. Surely we were going to score soon?

No. They did instead. A long ball forward their keeper was chested down by Sheron, who then sent a left-foot shot on the turn past Oakes. Barnsley then came into the game in earnest and they had a couple of shots which were easily saved by Oakes.

The second half was all Wolves. Early on their goalie made a brilliant save from a Sturridge header, and that set the tone for the rest of the half. Perhaps the most memorable moments were when their goalie (also called Miller) grabbed the ball off the feet of our Miller and one of their defenders cleared off the line from a Robinson shot.

The most annoying incident was when Branch was tripped in the box and the ref ignored it. Surely it was a penalty? The ref said no.

So there you have it - we dominated, but couldn't make the breakthrough. They played an aggressive long ball game and won. Its a funny old game. Or at least it will be unless those three dropped points rob us of promotion at the end of the season......
