Report by Nero Wolf

The press referred to us as "stuttering" towards the finishing line. After the lacklustre Norwich display, we might start to question whether we had enough "in the tank" to reach the finishing line. What a time for the return of our top scorer "Deano" Sturridge. This was a "must-win" and we were not let down.

But it could have been very different. After about ten minutes "Gazza" Gascoigne floated in a perfect cross which was headed in when Oakes couldn't reach it. The ref fortunately saw a foul on Oakes and disallowed the goal. This, of course, meant that Jones didn't have to do a "Rotherham" and promise to wear a dress.

Wolves almost immediately responded with an excellent passing move with just a hint of offside. I'm afraid I'll have to do a "Wenger" and say that from where I was I couldn't see whether Sturridge or Cameron were offside. There was also a few lucky rebounds on the way, but do I care? Sturridge was given the prefect opportunity in front of goal and he did what he does best.

Almost straight after Gascoigne lost the ball to Newton who charged up the wing and laid the ball back to Blake who set up Sturridge. Sturridge's excellent shot was denied by an equally excellent clearance of the line. But you can't keep a good Sturridge down. A long ball was played forward and eventually found Newton who crossed for Sturridge at the near post. Two nil.

There's more. Halle played the ball through to Cameron on the edge of the box and he ficked the ball up, turned his marker and volleyed home a brilliant third. Three nil at half time and party time.

What a difference in the second half. Very early in the second half a cross in saw a low header through a crowd of Wolves defenders to beat Oakes. Although we stayed in control - especially as Burnley had a player sent off - we were in for a tense final ten minutes, as they got a second goal from a good passing move.

There was time enough for Ndah to miss a good opportunity and it seemed like much more than ten minutes, but the third Burnley goal didn't happen. Now the question is what team will we see on Monday - the team that lost to Grimsby or the team that went three nil up in the first half? Here's hoping.....
