This match report is based on watching the game on the TV I'm afraid. For a review from a fan who was really there - check out Truls site.

The game kicked off a 6.15 to please ITV digital, surely the first time we've played a match at such a strange time. The sun was blazing down on Oaksey's goal at the kick off and it looked like this might cause visibility problems, even though Oakes was wearing a baseball hat. The sun seemed to dictate Coventry's game plan (despite what Strachan said after the match) because when they did get the ball they seemed to want to punt it towards our goal.

We got off to the better start and seemed more up for it. Even so it was a bit of a surprise, when, in the sixth minute Robinson popped up completley unmarked to volley a Kennedy free kick into the net. 1-0 Wolves.

Proudlock missed a gilt-edged chance to make it two nil on 8 minutes when clear through he shot straight at Hedman. We continued to be the better side until about 15 minutes when Coventry started to come into the game a bit more. However they still didn't carve out any real chances and our back four were looking good.

Both teams seem happy to play the long ball, and we - surprisingly - seemed unwilling to try and hold on to the ball. Still we were hounding a very uninspiring-looking Coventry. The best part of this half - except of course for the goal - was when Hughes chased a through ball, only for it to bounce of the back of his legs for a Wolves throw in - "Yyyaarrrgghhh!!"

The second half started with Coventry still unsuccessfully trying to break us down, but at least they weren't trying the long ball game any more. The game itself was pretty uneventful until the last couple of minutes - at least football-wise. We seemed happy to try and pump the ball to Kennedy or up to our forwards and we were also able to snuff out any danger. The only football of note was when, on 70 minutes Hedman made a stunning save after Proudlock seemed certain to score from a Newton cross.

Away from the football O'Neil - who was booked earlier - kept pushing his luck (and quite often pushing Muscat). On another day he may have gotten the red card. He must be taking Strachan as his role model. The ginger-headed Scotsman was continually arguing with the fourth official and wrestled with Dave Jones to get the ball back when it went out for a throw. Strachan seemed non-plused when a fat fan threw his Coventry replica shirt at him - presumably as a protest.

In the last few minutes the game suddenly sparked back into life. On 90 minutes, Williams had a free header which Oakes somehow scrambled (with his shoulder?) onto the bar. Certainly a heart in the mouth moment. Then up the other end Ketsbaia nearly broke the bar with a brilliant sceaming shot. He still had time after that to split open the defence with a run and his cross across the face of goal deserved more.

Overall we worked hard - Lescott, Newton and Proudlock looked a cut above the rest - but to be honest we won't be setting the division alight on this form. We need something else to be challenging for the beloved Premiership come the end of the season. Probably a commanding midfielder is what is needed.
