| Report by Nero Wolf
Last night at the Brit Awards the Best British Video went to '21 Seconds' by So Solid Crew Three goals in four hundred and fifty seconds ended this tie as a contest. "So Solid" who? Wolves hadn't won at Gresty Road since November 1997, and we had lost our previous two encounters away against Crewe. Crewe had won at Molineux back in November 2001 - our first defeat of the season. Nice stats, eh Fat Stat? However the record that had bearing on the game tonight was that Wolves had had a second half blitz of goals in two of their last three matches. In our last six matches we had conceded 2 and scored 11 in the second half, compared to scoring two and conceding four in the first half. See where this is going? The first half was a poor affair for Wolves fans. Crewe created plenty of chances and we didn't seem able to cope. We were off colour in all departments except goalkeeper. As Dave J had said earlier in the week every game now is like a cup tie, and Crewe had shown Everton last weekend just how they can play cup football. Early on one of their forwards burst through the middle and, under pressure from Butler, he sent in a shot that Oakes saved. Blake had a couple of chances, sending a header over and firing in a shot that drew an excellent diving save from their goalie. After about forty minutes A 30 yard left-footed shot by a Crewe player from left wing was saved by Oakes. The resulting in-swinging corner had to be cleared by Rae. Half time and it wasn't looking good. But as I pointed out earlier, Wolves have normally been a different team in the second half lately. Is it Dave Jones team talk? Or is it monkey glands in the half time brew? Whatever it is it worked again this time. An ex-Premiership striker, brought by Wolves earlier in the season, turned this game. But it wasn't Sturridge....... Early in the second half, after a neat set of passes with Sturridge Blake cut inside one of their defenders and sent in a fierce left footed shot which went in off the post. Mayhem in the away end. A couple of minutes later Rae shot right-footed from 30 yards out on the left wing. The goalie fumbled it and it ended up in the back of the net! A couple of minutes later and Blake got a second with a great right footed shot. Then, if it wasn't already all over, Kennedy killed the game off with a low cross which got deflected in off one of their defenders. Even a late consolation goal couldn't tarnish the feeling. Another away win by a three goal margin, and we are top of the league. After our home loss earlier in the season all I can say is that revenge is a dish best served cold. Brrrrrrrr..............
