Report by Bizket Wolf

What can I say? Another disaster - oh how frustrating it is to be a Wolves fan. Just when you think that things are going ok, a game like this creeps up from out of the woodwork to smack you one in the face. It's bad enough being dumped out of the FA cup at home to a no hope, going nowhere backstreet team, but the ineptitude of the performance twists that knife even deeper.

In hindsight, the writing was on the cards, FA cup 3rd round, Dave Jones' first anniversary, Wolves at home to a nobody who haven't lost for 11 games, with Wolves struggling to find any penetration, let alone the net. Why does any team containing ex-Wolves players always seem to embarrass us? Simon Osborn would play half a game well for Wolves every ten appearances, today he decided to play the whole game as if he had something to prove. The little that their keeper, Vince Bartram, had to do he did it with pride and yet he could hardly make a first team appearance for us.

To say I am a little disappointed is really an understatement, we played very poorly, in fact the worst I have seen for a long time (and I do keep saying that - lets hope this is the last time). We just seemed so inept - oh what a good cup run could have done for not only confidence but money (and we certainly need a boat load of that - on this performance we need to replace the whole team).

Its not as though we started well and faded, we just did not perform. The first half saw no goal chances, not even a shot on target; and yet Oakes was called to make several decent saves. On 29 minutes Blake was substituted (due to concussion, after a nasty bang of heads - lets hope it's not too serious) for the return of Kenny Miller. But even this could not rouse Wolves from hibernation. Miller played reasonably well, but he is need of several games to get match fit.Nothing of real interest happened - Half time 0.0.

The second half carried on where the first half left it - very flat.Anyway one of their players took advantage of a nasty deflection to power the ball beyond Oakes and that was that. Wolves stepped up a gear but never really looked like scoring. The ball did end up in the net, but Rae was well offside. They had a few chances but had already decided to defend. Not surprisingly as Wolves were so poor in front of goal that half of their team could have gone off for a mid second half cup of Bovril.

Wolves pressed but showed no venom in front of goal, we had no less than 15 corners (or so it seemed) but well, again when do we score from corners. And so the result was a resounding defeat worthy of such a mighty team as the Gills!!.

So where from here? Well there's the old cliche about concentrating on the league - however when will footy pundits and the like stop patronising the decent match paying public. A good cup run gets the old emotions going, there is nothing better than winning matches, particularly in a competition like the FA cup. So I don't want to hear any of that tripe. Dave Jones had better wind up these useless bunch of overpaid nancy boys and start concentrating on just that. GET US OUT OF THIS NIGHTMARE AND INTO THE PROMISED LAND NOW!!

A rather subdued and disappointed Bizket Wolf
