Report by JD Wolf

Just one of those days - as Davy Jones would sum up the game, I'm not 100% convinced that we haven't lost the plot (even if not the whole team, but one psycho aussie - more about him later).

The day started with the usual party atmosphere, another big crowd and a bright day (why didn't I bring my shades?). Grimsby making the trek down with a meagre following, safe in the knowledge that they are looking to be relegated and only having won, at Molineux, once since the war (battle of Hastings I think). Wolves players and fans were very buoyant, and not suprisingly - what looked like a safe bet and realistically only probably needing three more wins to secure the fortunes of the promised land next season.

The usual "Huddle" at the beginning still sends tingles down my spine. Afterwards Camara and Kennedy had quite a long chat - it seemed like tactics, judging by some of the hand gestures, But who can tell - an Irishman and a French Guinea, it surely must have been very entertaining!

They kicked off and immediately the ball went backwards virtually to the keeper - sums up a crap team wearing an even worse strip. Wolves seemed to be at all sorts, which was summed up after 10 mins when an un-characteristically defensive mistake by Rae, let in one of them lot, but with only the keeper to beat 8 yards out shot wide. Ah I thought these bunch of ex-scum players aren't going top score! Wolves tried to get in the game, with Sturridge shooting wide then almost immediately later Blake missed with a poor attempt. But Wolves looked very apathetic - almost as if they assumed just turning up would get them the points. This was summed up by the p*ssed up nutter next to me (why do I always get them?) shouting at the closest Wolves player to him that they "had to make it happen" - I completely agree with him but don't need that in my earhole all match. A neat one two with Rae saw Sturridge pull the ball well wide and that really summed up the game so far.

Half Time 0.0

The second half carried on just where it left off, Wolves seemingly not having a care in the world, putting no effort into their game at all. However, things exploded on 53 mins when physco lost it and needlessly elbowed one of them in the face. He had done it in the first half and got away with it - to do it again was madness, ultimately costing Wolves the game. The crowd became a little apprehensive at this and this showed in Wolves' play as they retreated even more. Grim Grimsby started having belief - something that was very evidently missing before. On 75 mins Cameron came on for the injured Kennedy - who had done nothing all game, but almost immediately slack defending saw one of them get the better of a sleepy defence to head the ball home. However, not even this woke up Wolves, Shaun Newton had the only bright spot with a pitch length run with the ball to shoot which was well turned round the post for a corner. Miller came on for Sturridge (a strange decision - was it because Blake always gives Davy Jones some lip when he is subbed?), but he had little time or enthusiasm to change the game.

Full time 0.1.

Overall a very disappointing result with an even more disappointing performance. The finishing line is within smelling distance and this sort of performance is not needed. The hot headed approach by Muscatt is definitely not what is needed and I can see that being the last game that he will play for Wolves.

On the bright side we are still 8 points clear with only six games left, the title may be realistically out of our reach but we can still show Keegan who is the better side. The reaction on his face as he spits his dummy out of the cot will be worth the prospect of finishing second.

Next season will be a different story, but if the press are correct with news of the likes Robbie Keane wanting to play for us - who can tell.

It's going to be a worrying few weeks - where's my bottle of JD gone?
