| Well it's been some time but I'm just about ready to put pen to paper about last season and thoughts for this one.
Last season - well pretty unbelievable. It still hasn't completely sunk in yet. With only 10 games to go, coasting and ripping teams apart, we still end up in this hell hole and the unimaginable consequence of a bunch of no hope part timers piping us to the post.
So what went wrong?
Besides the stripey lot having a lucky run in, as far as I am concerned two things were to blame:
Firstly Davey Jones is not the manager I (and a great deal many more) once thought. He obviously has a problem in motivating players (maybe the overpaid nancy boys shouldn't need it, but unfortunately they do!). Not only could he not psych them up to go out to grind a result out, but he doesn't know how to change games. How many games did we see whereby it was completely obvious that changes were needed and we still played the long hoof forward. Other managers managed it - take the Forrest and Norwich away games, but Davey no - just keep plodding on the same, booting the ball forward to the likes of lazy Blake and disinterested Newton. The galling thing about it was he could see the problems coming miles off and still he stood there and did absoluty b****r all.
And then there's the players. Fat pay packets and hefty bonuses are obviously not the trick. Virtually to a man, they did not want to get promoted - was it because they would be seen to be the players they actually are in the premiership or did they think they would be out of a job?
Either way the players DID NOT want promotion.
Fat Moxey's comments in the letter with this years season tickets were about as genuine as Moxey saying he is interested in football. I somehow don't think that these overpaid players cried buckets in the changing room. They may have been crying with laughter - but not out of pity for the fans. I feel sorry not only for the fans but for Sir Jack. He again has been badly let down by amateurish performances on and off the field.
What we need are players and staff with gold and black blood, people who would give up everything to get promotion. I have not always been a massive Bully fan (particularly towards the end), but if every player gave their heart and soul on the pitch like he did week after week, I wouldn't have to be writing this!
Last season was a crying shame, but we have to move on. So what have we instore for next season?
Well we seem to have started well - lets sign another 40 year old ex-premier has been, who will probably bleed the coffers dry and play only 6 games in a season. Lets face it Irwin has been there with the best but this is just meal ticket for him, surely there is a youngster out there with a bit of fire in his belly? I would rather stick Steve Bull at right back - at least we know there will be some commitment.
So I fear for this season. Two very good sides have been relegated (Derby and Leicester) and so it looks like chasing that dreaded playoff place again and with the lack off commitment from our players we might as well write off another season - why not concentrate on winning one of the cups because that's about all we can dream for.
Therefore, Moxey and Davey Jones you know where you can stick your billboard: 100% commitment - 100% determination - 100% cr@p.
ps it shows that they can't even get a poster right - for chuffs sake Cedric Roussel has signed it!!!!!!
see you all in purgatory
