This was the proverbial game of two halves. We lost the first half one-nil, but we should have lost by more. We won the second half two-nil, but didn't deserve it. If we can keep winning when playing badly should we care?

The transfer request handed in by Macken just before this game would either mean that Preston would be up for it and out to exact revenge, or would be deflated and be a walk-over. As it turns out they were the former in the first half, but not quite the latter in the second.

We never looked comfortable in the first half. The defence in particular looked nervous. Our game plan (again!) seemed to be to pump it forward to Kennedy (or Sinton) and Newton. But compared to Preston our passing was woeful.

Preston were passing the ball around quite well, belying their poor start to the campaign. It was no surprise when quite early on they nearly took the lead when one of their players latched onto a Cresswell cross, hit the bar and then, luckily for us, failed to hit the target with the rebound.

Preston did take the lead after about 30 minutes when a free kick was firmly headed into the net by Lucketti.

Just after that, Sinton replaced Kennedy - I think because Kennedy was injured although he hadn't really been in the game, so maybe it was tactical. If it was it certainly paid dividends early in the second half.

Just after the restart, Roussel crossed to Sinton whose chip deceived the Preston Keeper and saw the back of the net. The goal seemed to galvanise Wolves and we seemed to be giving them less time on the ball. Maybe it was Jones' half time talk?

After about an hour Lescott made it two one for us. Their goalie dropped a fairly mundane free kick by Naylor and Lescott didn't hesitate when the ball dropped to his feet. Two goals in two games for the young defender.

And there we are. We probably didn't deserve a win but we did deserve something for our (yet again!) refusal to give up. It has to be a good thing when you play this badly and still win. Isn't that what Man Utd do? However, I think we still have a long way to go before we can make comparisons like that.
