Lescott was made the villain by the ref, but then made himself the hero in this dire game. Sheffield United never wanted to play football, and except for a spectacular goal by Asaba, they offered nothing except for set pieces and long throws.

Wolves dominated the first half, but again showed an inability to kill off a game. Proudlock was one on one with the goal keeper again, but the keeper made a good save. Just wait until he gets his first goal to settle his nerves and I'm sure he'll be our highest goal scorer again this season.

After 30 minutes we went ahead. The impressive Newton was again key, his 45 yard pass setting Proudlock free on the left and, after good work by the Newport youngster, Roussel bagged his second goal of the season.

Half time 1-0 Wolves

The second half couldn't have started any worse. The referee, who seemed determined to ruin any chance of real football by blowing his whistle every few minutes, gave a penalty for reasons best known to himself (although a rabid Sheffield crowd might have had something to do with it).

We still seemed the better side, and Roussel was unlucky when his goal-bound shot was cleared off the line. But with about ten minutes to go Sheffield Utd seemed to have snatched an unlikely win when a spectacular overhead kick gave Oakes no chance. Cue massive cheering from the boring Blades fans.

Sheffield then hit the post and it was suddenly looking very grim.

However it was Lescott who had the last laugh when he latched onto a Butler cross to slot home the equalizer. One point saved, or two points lost as Jones claimed after the match? We were certainly the better side, and seem to be made of sterner stuff nowadays. I'll go for the "glass half full option" - now lets go and get three points from Preston and show them we don't need their striker anyway.
