Swamp Fever

by JD Wolf

So the dream is over and the realisation that a we have been beaten to it by them. Swamp fever has hit little Sandwell town, whilst a cloud of depression has engulfed the city of light. So now the incriminations can start. How can a team performing so well, with such a lead be brought down to earth so dramatically?

In truth it comes down to the commitment of the players. Rodney Marsh's comments about "ugly albion", as funny as they were, are totally correct. What got the scum up (besides Wolves helping them) was their commitment, not only to the "cause" but to the club itself. Just look at Wimbledon a few seasons ago, not a pretty team but each player dedicated to play for the them - at their height how many of the top teams relished playing them?

Maybe there's been a lot of psychological banter been said; but in truth the scum have no money to spend and so will have to rely on the players that they have now next season. Therefore the squad there, know that they will have at least one season in the Premiership.

What about the Wolves team?

It's no secret that Dave Jones has said that the team won't survive in the Premiership without £20m being spent. How does the team feel about that, knowing that 90% of them will be out of a job next season. I've said before that Moxey wants the playoffs to increase income - but what about the players?

There is no prestige in finishing second, other than satisfaction. The playoff final is another story! And what about the club itself, don't any of the team realise what it is like to finish behind them? Davy Jones kept saying look at the bigger picture - I don't even think that he accepts what the fans think about all of this.

This just proves the calibure of the present Wolves squad - they seem more interested in their own little world than the very people paying their inflated wages each week. No commitment and no will to asign themselves to the club and fans, realising they have no future here.

Oh for the sort of commitment and love given by one Stephen George Bull!

How would you want to finish at the club, 2nd or the chance to play at the Welsh Wembley in front of 80,000 people and millions on the box? It can be the only answer to what has happened, way back at the end of February I said 3 more wins than the scum and that would be that - then came Grimsby then Norwich!!

So what now?

I think that you will see a different team over the next 3(?) games. A point to prove definitely, but an ego boost for ageing ex premiership crocks will be what its all about. Davy Jones has a lot to do over the next couple of weeks, maybe he should learn a little bit of reverse psychology and ensure that we get to the promised land; not just for the long suffering fans sake, but mainly for Sir Jack.

over and out!
