Report by Nero Wolf

Oh the ecstasy and then the agony.

If you'd asked me before the game I would have said that if we got an early goal then we were in with a good chance. Well we did get an early goal. With less than a minute gone, a brilliant ball from Rae released Blake who powered through the Wednesday defence and played a square ball for Cameron to slot home. Just like earlier in the season. Euphoria. Could justice really be served today and the moaning Brummies get their just deserts?

We controlled the game for the next twenty minutes. Sturridge had a brilliant shot just saved by their goalie and it seemed that we would do our bit by winning easily.

Then came the news that broke our hearts, sapped the life out of the team and gave Wednesday (supporters and team alike) heart: The scum had scored.

We fell apart. A Halle back pass was under-weighted and forced Oakes to trip Kuqi. Luckily - both for this match and the play-offs the ref didn't see it, or it would have been a straight red card and penalty. But just before half time Wednesday did equalise. Oakes missed a free kick which had been floated in, and it came off the knee of a Wednesday player on the far post. Although Halle seemed to clear it off the line - the ref gave it, making up for the missed penalty.

Early in the second half, Newton - much berated by Wolves fans for a reason I can't fathom - crashed a superb shot against the post. Almost immediately Rae was dispossessed which allowed Kuqi to give Wednesday the lead.

Within a couple of minutes we equalised with a brilliant looping header from Lescot, which came from a Mo Mo free kick. Then we heard about the scum's second goal, and that was almost it. Just time for Wednesday to get awarded a penalty and for Kuqi to wrestle the ball off their usual penalty taker. After all the fuss his penalty was weak and Oakes saved easily. Maybe he wanted to do us a favour in the hope that we would sign him.

Now we face Norwich in the lottery of the play-offs. How can this really have happened?

In France the National Front got through to the second stage in the Presidential elections. Today the Devil looked after his own.
